One morning Susanna wakes to find herself bored and annoyed with her cat:
You're old, Cat, and you're lazy--
Too peaceful, too serene
Not me! I'm wild and crazy
And I'm sick of all this green:
A field, a tree, a petal--
Quite beautiful, it's true,
But I'm far too young to settle
For nothing much to do.

But things change and her Cat reappears as a wide-eyed loony of a thing...
Susanna is transported with the help of magic glasses from the
tedium
of a summer afternoon into an exciting world of mangrove swamps, spluttering volcanoes
and sea where birds fly upside down and wild
things threaten to pounce. But she is not alone.
Old friends from Moomin
Valley - Hemulen, Sniff, Snufkin, Thingummy & Bob - have joined
her
in her journey, and Moomin too, who rides to their rescue in a stripey
balloon...
